Iran boosts gas supply to power plants by 50 percent in month

Iran supplied 100 million cubic meters of natural gas on the average per day to its power plants during the seventh calendar month of Aban (Oct. 22-Nov.20), showing 50-percent rise compared to the same period in the past year, IRNA quoted Hassan Montazer Torbati, official at the National Iranian Gas Company as saying.

Gas supply to the power plants increased by some 1.2 billion cubic meters in the mentioned month, he said.

On Dec.2, the Mehr News Agency reported that Iran has cut the supply of natural gas to 60 power plants nationwide as consumption by household and industrial subscribers has reached a peak on the verge of the cold season.

The power plants will be supplied with 94 million liters of diesel and furnace oil, according to the report.

Gas consumption already hit 480 million cubic meters per day, 80 percent of which is consumed by household and industrial sectors.

Currently, 67 power plants are connected to the natural gas network.
