The number of passenger planes operating in Iran has increased from the time the current Iranian government came to power (since August 2013) to December 20, 2020, Trend reports citing the statistics of Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.
According to the statistics, there were 254 passenger planes in Iran in 2013. This figure rose to 323 until December 20, 2020.
“Some of the existing planes in the country are not used. The reasons for not using them are the lack of necessary spare parts, commercial inefficiency and legal problems,” the statistics said.
In 2016, 180 out of 287 passenger planes operated in Iran. However, Iran has faced serious problems in purchasing of spare parts for planes after the imposition of new US sanctions.
According to the statistics, Iran has purchased 13 new ATR72-600, 2 Airbus A330-300 and 1 Airbus A321 planes during the time of the current government.
