The volume of cargo transportation in the East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran) increased by 5.4 percent during the first three months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through June 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Deputy Director of Roads and Transport Department of East Azerbaijan Province Kazem Teymourzadeh said, Trend reports referring to Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran.
According to Teymourzadeh, more than 5.3 million tons of cargo were transported in the East Azerbaijan Province over the 3 months.
“In addition, more than 807,000 passengers were transported in the province on the basis of health protocols within the mentioned period. This is an increase of 54 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he added.
The deputy noted that there are currently 33,500 trucks and 37,000 truck drivers in the East Azerbaijan Province.
“There are also 285 local cargo transportation companies, 120 passenger transportation companies, as well as, 63 international cargo transportation companies and 6 international passenger transportation companies operating in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province,” Teymourzadeh said.
