Passenger transportation via Iran’s Mashhad Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport up

The number of passengers transported through the Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport in Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) increased by 52 percent, during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, as was reflected in the statistics of Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company (IAC), Trend reports.

According to the statistics, a total of 3,103,770 passengers were transported through the airport in 8 months. Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 2,046,410.

In general, 30,503 flights were carried out from Mashhad Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport over eight months, which is an increase of 72 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. So, the figure amounted to 17,775 in the same period last Iranian year.

“In addition, 29,483 tons of cargo were transported through the airport within the mentioned period. Cargo transportation increased by 77 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, 16,620 tons of cargo had been transported through the airport in the same period last Iranian year,” the statistics said.

The Mashhad Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport is located on an area of 540 hectares. It is the second busiest airport in Iran after Tehran's Mehrabad Airport. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, daily 40,000 passengers were transported through this airport.
