Trend:

A special commission of the Energiya Coordinating Dispatch Center, consisting of the representatives of the system operators of the energy systems of Central Asia, in particular, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, completed the investigation of the accident that occurred on January 25, 2022, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC).

According to the message, the commission revealed that the accident occurred as a result of a power outage in Uzbekistan’s energy system on January 25 at 11:59 (GMT+6).

“A short circuit occurred in the disconnector of the 500 kV high-voltage overhead power line connecting the Syrdarya thermal power plant and Uzbekistan’s ‘Tashkent’ 500 kV substation,” the message said.

“The power generation greatly decreased at the Syrdarya thermal power plant as a result of excessive operation of the 1st and 2nd 500kV systems,” the company said. “This caused multiple outages in the electrical network adjacent to the power plant and 2,100 MW power surge on 500 kV North-East-South transit power lines of the Unified Electric Power System of Kazakhstan (seven times more than allowed).”

According to the message, the emergency automation systems of electric networks of KEGOC and power plants in southern Kazakhstan worked as usual, taking into account the requirements for the separation of the power system in case of system accidents.

As a result, approximately 60 percent of consumers had electricity in southern Kazakhstan. The energy systems of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were completely de-energized.

“It took four hours to eliminate the accident in Kazakhstan, which shows high professionalism of the personnel of the system operator of the Unified Electric Power System (UES) of Kazakhstan,” the message said. “The restoration of power supply in the National Electrical Grid of Kyrgyzstan took more than a day while four days in the National Power Grid of Uzbekistan.”
