Geldi Saryev was appointed energy minister in Turkmenistan, according to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's document.
This ministry oversees the power sector, which is one of the leading sectors of the Turkmen national economy.
Turkmenistan plans to bring electricity production to 27.4 billion kilowatt / hours by 2020 and to 35.5 billion kilowatt / hours by 2030.
Currently, Turkmenistan expands export of electricity to Afghanistan , Iran and Turkey. The opportunities of its supply to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan , Pakistan and the Caucasus countries are being examined.
The investments worth $5 billion are planned to be made in the power sector according to the Turkmen electric power industry development concept until 2020.
Currently, there are 10 power stations in the Turkmen power system.
