BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 23

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan has launched implementation of initiatives aimed at planning adaptation to consequences coming after the climate change, Trend reports referring to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

According to the UNDP, the project is aimed at increasing the resilience of the sectors of the economy most vulnerable to the impact of climate change, and improving the existing development mechanisms in Uzbekistan.

The project started on December 3, 2020, with an introductory seminar held in an online format, which brought together a large audience of interested partner organizations. The project will be carried out with the support of the United Nations Development Program through grant funding from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The developed National Adaptation Plan will have a sectoral nature. The allocated funds amount to $1.6 million. The main goal of the initiative is to help the country create an effective planning process, taking into account climate adaptation priorities over the next two and a half years.

It was noted that the project activities will contribute to improving the efficiency of decision-making in such key sectors as agriculture and water management, health care, the construction sector, control over situations caused by extreme climatic events, as well as the development of the Aral Sea regions.

First Deputy Director General of the Center for Hydrometeorological Service Bariddin Nishanov said that climate change in Uzbekistan has a visible impact on all spheres of human life and requires immediate measures to prevent the negative consequences of climate change and adaptation to new living conditions.
