Work on the model of the electricity market of Georgia and the corresponding model of the mechanism of electricity trade for 2015 will be completed by the end of 2014, and the introduction of the model will begin by stages starting from 2015.
Taking into account the new realities and needs, modernization of the market contributes to the development of the private sector in the field of hydropower engineering, assists the cross-border trade, as well as the improvement of mechanisms to reduce investment risks, the Ministry of Energy of Georgia said Nov.25.
A corresponding memorandum of understanding was signed in 2013 by the Ministry of Energy and the US Agency for International Development, which envisages development of a new model of the electricity market. SWOT analysis of the sector was also prepared.
The process of preparing the strategy of energy development includes the Ministry of Energy, Regulatory Commission and other organizations of the energy profile. At the moment, the basic structure of the strategy has been already prepared and specialists begin to work on the substantive part.
