Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said on Friday there was still much to do to resume diplomatic ties with Colombia, although he acknowledged there were positive signs to move ahead, Xinhua reported.
"Ecuador is open to resume diplomatic ties with the Colombian people, but it based on the fulfillment of the pending requirement that Ecuador has proposed," Correa said.
On March 1, 2008, the Colombian army raided a camp of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in Ecuadorian territory without notifying the country's authorities.
Two days later, Ecuador severed diplomatic ties with Colombia, and since then efforts to resume relations have not been successful despite the mediation of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Correa said he has called on Colombia to compensate the Ecuadorian victims in the attack and stop linking the government with Colombia's armed group.
