Sarkozy meets Qatari sheikh over Libya situation
French President Nicolas Sarkozy, one of the main driving forces behind the UN no-fly zone resolution, met Friday with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Khalifa al-Thani, over possible next moves, dpa reported.
Qatar was one of the first non-NATO countries to pledge support for action against Libya.
Sarkozy had earlier spoken with US President Barak Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron and EU Council President Herman Van Rompuy by telephone.
French Prime Minister Francois Fillon was due to meet with his cabinet and leading lawmaker later Friday, after parliament was convened to discuss the situation.
The French centre-left opposition is largely supportive of Sarkozy's stance.
