In the fight against drug trafficking, some 350 kilograms of drugs were seized in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2013. This is 33 kilograms more than the amount of drugs seized during the same period last year.
These remarks were made by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan Police Lieutenant General Vilayat Eyvazov on Wednesday at a board meeting of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The meeting was dedicated to the results of measures taken for fighting crime, protection of public order and securing public safety in the first half of 2013, as well as to the challenges ahead.
According to Eyvazov, some 28 criminal groups, consisting of 73 persons were neutralized in the fight against drug trafficking in the reporting period.
The smuggling of 33.5 kilograms of narcotics into Azerbaijan was prevented, and 177.6 tons of narcotics related plants were destroyed.
