State Department: Secretary Clinton discharged from hospital (UPDATE)

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was released Wednesday from a New York City hospital, the State Department said late Wednesday.

Clinton had been hospitalized since Sunday for treatment of a blood clot, and "her medical team advised her that she is making good progress on all fronts, and they are confident she will make a full recovery," Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Philippe Reines said.

He described her as "eager to get back to the office," with her immediate work schedule to be clarified in the coming days.

Earlier reports that US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had not left a New York City hospital were incorrect, CNN reported Wednesday.

Video footage that showed her leaving a building and climbing into a car with husband Bill Clinton gave the impression that she had left the hospital, dpa reported citing CNN.

She is being treated for a blood clot in her head.
