Azerbaijan, Baku, 4 March / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The opposition Open Society and Musavat parties reached an agreement to participate in the upcoming presidential elections with their own candidates and not hold pre-election campaigns against each other, Zamina Dunyamaliyeva, advisor to Rsul Guliyev, the OSP leader, stated to Trend .
Dunyamaliyev held a meeting with Isa Gambar, the Musavat leader. The meeting participants discussed the issues concerning participation in the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
The parties came to an agreement to participate in the elections with their own candidates and not hold pre-election campaign against each other. Guliyev and Gambar believe that the opposition parties should participate in the elections with their own candidates. "We agreed with Gambar that each party will participate in the elections with their own candidates," Dunyamaliyeva said.
Dunyamaliyeva noted that the parties may support each other during the run up to the elections. The parties agreed to support the candidate who will have the most chance during the elections.
During the 2003 presidential elections Guliyev's candidature was registered, but he supported Gambar's candidature before the elections.
Guliyev will nominate his own candidature and will not support candidates from other parties.
The ex-Speaker Guliyev has been living in the United States since 1996.
The ex-Speaker Gambar took second place in the 2003 presidential elections.
