Azerbaijan Marks Genocide of Azerbaijanis on 31 March

Azerbaijan, Baku, 31 March / Trend / On 31 March, Azerbaijan marks the Day of Azerbaijani Genocide. In March 1918, the Dashnak-Bolshevik government of S. Shaumyan seized the power and committed brutal genocide towards the Azerbaijani people. From March to April, innocent Azerbaijanis were slaughtered in Baku, Shamakhi and other regions. During that period, Turkey extended a helping hand to Azerbaijan and rescued the Azerbaijani population from being killed one and all by Armenians.

31 March is the memory day of tragic events in the history of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani people, which took place in the recent hundred years. The scandalous facts of massacre, repressions, eviction of Azerbaijanis from their native land may be considered as one of the tragic pages in the world history of 20th century. This tragic history of Azerbaijani people reflects the Armenian chauvinism- mad about creation of the Great Armenia and not disdaining to use any means to achieve the desired goal.

According to the decree signed by the Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1998, 31 March shall be marked as the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
