The government's resignation is inevitable and will occur earlier than Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili expects, the Kavkasia television channel quoted former Parliamentary Speaker Nino Burjanadze as saying. Saakashvili opposed resigning on Nov. 2, 2007, but left his post during snap elections, she said.

"Now he says he will leave in 2013. But he will have to resign earlier," Burjanadze said.

Burjanadze is a leader of the Democratic Movement-United Georgia. She said the will of the Georgian people force Saakashvili to resign.

"The public must be active and force the government to resign," Burjanadze said.

She said opposition political forces must be consolidated.

"The opposition must stop criticizing each other until our common aim is achieved," Burjanadze said.
