Azerbaijani MP meets Belgian Senator

Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva has met with the honorary chairman of the Belgian Senate, Senator Anne-Marie Lizin at the international forum against human trafficking in Luxor, Egypt.

At the meeting Pashayeva informed Lizin about the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory by Armenia, expulsion of  a million of Azerbaijanis from their homes for over 15 years,  the current situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the occupation of several villages of Gazakh district, the genocide in the Baganis-Ayrim village.

Pashayeva reminded the senator of her visit to mass graves of the victims of 1918 genocide against Azerbaijanis in Guba and said that acts of genocide committed against Azerbaijanis were one of the greatest crimes against humanity. According to her, the international community should express its attitude to this issue.

The meeting noted the importance of expansion of the Azerbaijani-Belgian parliamentary relations. Belgian senator said that foreign investors are showing great interest in Azerbaijan. According to her, the country's nature, monuments and tourist potential also attracts interest.

Pashayeva and Lizin discussed the international fight against human trafficking and the importance of increasing the role of NGOs in this area.

Azerbaijani deputy invited Lizin to visit Tovuz district, from which she was elected, during the senator's planned visit to Azerbaijan.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of the Research Center for High Technology under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and IT Sevda Abdullayeva, who told of the successful international cooperation of Azerbaijan in the high technology field.

International forum against human trafficking began its work on Saturday in Luxor. It will be chaired by Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak and UN officials. The main purpose of the forum is to support the fight against transnational crime, violence against people, especially women and children and human trafficking.
