Several intergovernmental and inter-industry agreements are planned to be signed during Tajik President Emomali Rahmon's official visit to Azerbaijan, scheduled for July 12-13.
Four intergovernmental agreements are planned to be signed following the visit. These are an agreement on copyright protection, a protocol on cooperation between the foreign ministries of both countries, agreements on cooperation in agriculture and tourism and youth policy, the embassy told Trend on Thursday.
It is also planned to sign two inter-industry documents, including a cooperation agreement between the Baku State University and the Tajik National University and an agreement on cooperation between the Azerbaijani and Tajik National Olympic Committees.
President Rahmon plans to hold a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, as well as other officials in Baku.
The mutual visits of the Azerbaijani and Tajik Presidents in March and August 2007 gave added impetus to the dynamic development of bilateral interstate cooperation.
The Azerbaijani embassy was opened in Dushanbe in 2007. The Tajik embassy was opened in Baku in 2008.
Azerbaijan and Tajikistan are working closely in the international and regional organizations, including UN, OIC, ECO, CIS and others that can effectively maintain regional peace and ensure the fundamental interests of both countries.
The first meeting of Azerbaijan-Tajik intergovernmental commission on trade and economic and cultural cooperation was held in Dushanbe on March 5, 2012.
Particular attention in bilateral relations is paid to the development of staff training for Tajikistan in Azerbaijani universities in such spheres as geological exploration and development of oil and gas fields, petrochemicals and heavy industry. It is planned to make Azerbaijani investments - both public and private to create new jobs.
The Tajik Aluminium Company 'Talco' transports its goods through the territory of Azerbaijan. Talco has completed work to prepare equipment and modernise to ensure the production and supply of aluminium anodes by Azerbaijani company 'Det-Al'.
The operations on reconstructing the existing facilities and constructing a cryolite and fluoride production plant have been conducted in Tajikistan to ensure caustic soda out of aluminous production in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan provides the Tajik side with the petroleum crude and calcined coke produced by the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery.
According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, as of late 2011, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan amounted to $15.99 million, of which exports amounted to $13.2 million.
