More than 2,000 civilians were killed as a result of 373 terrorism acts committed by Armenians in Azerbaijan, said Head of the Azerbaijan’s State Security Service Lieutenant-General Madat Guliyev.

He made the remarks addressing the conference titled “The role of the youth in fight against terrorism, extremism and radicalism” in Baku on March 3.

Guliyev noted that Azerbaijan faced the consequences of terror a few centuries ago.

“Even in the previous century, Armenian terrorists committed terrorist acts against Azerbaijan. Armenian terror regained a wide scope in 1980s. Twenty percent of Azerbaijani territories were occupied,” he said.

The head of the State Security Service emphasized that Azerbaijan is in a difficult geopolitical environment, noted Guliyev adding that however, Azerbaijan is the most stable country not only in the South Caucasus.

“This became possible thanks to the policy, the foundation of which was laid by great leader Heydar Aliyev. Today the political course, the foundation of which was laid by the national leader, is being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev by considering the requirements of modern times,” stated Guliyev.

He added that thanks to the policy of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has taken a worthy place in the international security system, by gaining the status of a reliable partner.
