Court Sitting on Case of Stabbing Journalist of Opposition Newspaper of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 July / Trend corr. T. Abbasov/ The evidences of the witnesses were given during the court sitting on the stabbing with knife Agil Khalil, writer for Azadlig newspaper.
The evidences were given by Eldar Rasulov, the driver of the accused Sergey Strekalin who is officer of the criminal investigation department who conducted search in his apartment and search witness.
The writer for Azadlig Agil Khalil was subject to armed attack and was wounded on13 March.
Khalilov said that he was subject to armed attack because of the incident that took place in Zeytun Bagi and his journalistic activity and he added that he was followed by two men.
The Attorney General's Office said that the journalist was stabbed by the homosexuals, that is, by Sergey Strekalin, with whom he had sexual relations earlier.
Strekalin was arrested with charges of inflicting injury to health deliberately (127.1) and storing drugs illegally (234.1) in line with the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Rasulov said in his evidence that on 13 March Strekalin met with Khalil near Azerbaijan publishing house. "Khalil and Strekalin squabbled in a car. Sergey demanded Agil to leave him in peace and do not sent him SMS. Agil insisted on maintaining their relations," he said.
The evidence by Rasulov aroused disagreements of Khalil. The judge warned him not to hinder the evidence.
The lawyer of Khalil demanded to invite additional witnesses. But he request was rejected.
The court sitting will last on 9 July with the evidence of other witnesses.
