Young Turkmen chess player gains gold medal in India

Turkmenistan, Ahsgabat, Feb.5 / Trend corr E. Hasanov / Saparmurat Atabayev, performing in10 age group, gained a gold medal in a chess tournament held in Indian city of Gurgaon, Turkmen press reports.

The tournament involved about 300 chess players from 13 countries 17 of which bare a grand master title. The event included 10 rounds and run on Swiss system.

Atabayev needed to score five points to reach the victory.

A columnist of newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan writes that the Indian tournament was the first outside tournament for Atabayev. The chess player saw renowned specialists with perfect combinative game performance not peculiar to his age group.

Other two Turkmen players Kurbangeldi Amangeldiyev (5.5 points) and Kurbanberdi Basharov (five points) gripped silver and bronze medals who train under renowned Turkmen trainer Shohrat Muratguluyev in Ashgabat chess school. Amangeldiyev was in the 14 age group and Basharov was in the 16 age group.

The newspaper article says Amangeldiyev, who partook in World Championship 2005 in France, is distinguished with stable and accurate game style whereas Basharov accurately plays a positional game and actively attacks to a certain zone.   

Due to the successful performance in the tournament, all three players opened their rate in the list of sportsmen included the staff of the international chess federation FIDE.

The Turkmen chess championship of men, which will involve about 100 players from all regions of the country, will be held in Ashgabat on Feb.7-13.
