Fifteen Employees of Azerbaijani Our Way Newspaper Called for Investigation

Ramazanova / Fifteen employees of the Azerbaijani Our Way newspaper were called for investigation regarding the case of Mushvig Huseynov, the Chairman of the Institute on Freedom and Security for Reports, the head of the working group on Husenov's case, Emin Huseynli, said at a press conference on 9 August.

Huseynli said that the directors of other press organizations, as well as human rights activists, should be involved in the investigation. A preliminary investigation revealed that the Council on the Press did not receive any apply regarding the bribery charge against the employee of Our Way.

Huseynli said that close relatives of the journalist, including his brother, have been unable to visit the inmate. Numerous attempts to contact the head of the administration of the Azerbaijani Labour and Social Protection Ministry, Rizvan Aliyev, who supposedly received a bribe from Huseynov, were in vain. A written inquiry will be submitted to Aliyev.

An employee of Bizim Yol (Our Way) newspaper, Mushvig Huseynov, was arrested by police on 24 July. The Prosecutor-General's Office stated that Huseynov was detained for accepting a bribe from an official in the amount of $3,500. A criminal case was filed against Huseynov in compliance with Article 311.1 (bribery) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. An investigation is underway at the Corruption Enforcement Department at the Republican Prosecutor's Office. Currently Huseynov is held in Bail Investigation Cell 1.
