Kuwaiti budget carrier Jazeera Airways has taken delivery of a new Airbus A320, bringing its fleet size to six A320 aircraft.
The aircraft is the sixth of a firm order the company gave to European planemaker Airbus for 40 new A320s at the Le Bourget Paris Air Show in 2007.
On delivery of all 40 aircraft in 2014, Jazeera Airways will be the largest Airbus A320 operator in the Middle East, the company said in a statement.
The two-year-old airline flies to 25 destinations and this year made Dubai International Airport its second hub. Jazeera said the aircraft is one of the new generation of Airbus A320s, modelled on the improved interior of the brand super jumbo A380, and incorporates wider overhead storage and a wider cabin feel.
The airline recently doubled its capital to 20 million Kuwaiti dinars through a rights issue to existing shareholders.
It said the capital increase will fund the airline's planned expansion, aimed at growing operations and entering new markets across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.
"We are committed to building a fleet of brand new Airbus A320s, which are well designed to keep operating costs low. This coupled with the standardisation across Jazeera Airways' operations, enables us to increase our efficiency and continue to offer every-day low fares to our customers," said Jazeera's chairman and chief executive officer Marwan Boodai.
