Azerbaijani members of parliament said the private sector must be supported to reduce the impact of the global financial crisis and prevent unemployment.
"Almost 75 percent of the country's economy is built on private businesses. They influence social welfare," member of parliament and head of the Parliamentary Commission on Social Policy Hadi Rajabli said.
The crisis is not expected to affect social welfare as the law on pensions stipulates a yearly increase, which was taken into account when the budget was prepared, he said.
According to the Social Protection Fund, there are 1.3 million retirees in Azerbaijan.
The minimum pension is 75 manat.
