The dredging of the entrance channel to the Georgian Black Sea port of Poti has been completed, a source from port said. The main purpose of dredging is handling large tonnage vessels.
The dredging was carried out by the dredger Marieke (Luxemburg). The works were launched in March and lasted 70 days.
Under the contract, the Belgian company DEME (Dredging, Environmental Protection and Marine Engineering) carried out dredging the entrance channel to the port, and a specialized filter. As the result of the dredging about 1 million cubic meters of earth was removed from the area. Under the contract, the entrance channel was deepened to a depth of 12.5 meters.
There are 15 terminals in the port of Poti.
