Iran's first marine city will be created in the country, Seyyed Reza Mousavi, the managing director of Qeshm Free Zone Organization (QFZO) was quoted by CHTN as saying.

'' The action will meet great trade demand for marine field,'' Seyyed Reza Mousavi said.

Roughly 300 large ships and 350 small ones are floating in the country sea but there isn't proper place for their maintenance and repair. It seems necessary to create a marine city, he added.

Roughly 10-15 percent of ship repairing within the country and the rest of it are carried out in Persian Gulf Littoral countries, he noted.

Qeshm has better conditions compared to important marine cities like Bahrain, Dubai and Singapore, he stressed.

All companies and organizations dealing with offshore operations can collaborate with Qeshm Free Zone in constructing marine city, he remarked.

Qeshm will become an important commercial center of country.

The managing director of Qeshm free zone organization added that this national plan consists of constructing a 1,860 meter-Persian Gulf Bridge between Qeshm Island (Laft wharf) and Bandar Abbas (Pol wharf), building a rail line from Shahid Rajaei Port of Bandar Abbas Port to Kaveh wharf in Qeshm, developing Kaveh wharf and building a highway. By developing the Persian Gulf Bridge, Qeshm Island will become a center for transiting goods in north-south corridor passageway and Qeshm will become a big commercial and business region in Persian Gulf area. Mooring high tonnage ships in this wharf will become possible.
