Italian company to construct two road sections in early 2011

Italian company Todini became the winner of the tender to construct two sections of the road Alat-Masalli, which will begin from Jan. 2011, a source in the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport said.

He said that the company will build two sections, among which the first one covers 31.54 kilometers, while the second is around 55.81 kilometers long. "The work on the two sites will be conducted in parallel to accelerate the process," a source said.

The construction of a new bridge over the River Kura in the Salyan region is scheduled to begin from January. The bridge is a part of the road Alat-Masalli, while a new bridge will be built by the Azerbaijani construction company Azerkerpu.

The source said that construction work of the road Alat-Masalli will be carried out with the help of the World Bank loan, with the road's total length around 143 kilometers.

"The contractor has not been determined yet to build the biggest stretch of road from 81 to 143 kilometers, " a source said.

According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport, the total cost of constructing the road Alat-Masalli will hit $300.1 million, of which $206.1 million were allocated by the World Bank and $94 million will be given by the Azerbaijani government.
