Iran’s pistachio exports increase by 94 percent

Iran has exported $168 million worth of open in-shell pistachio during the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 - June 20) which indicates an increase by 94.5 percent compared to same period of the previous year.

Iran exported 20,000 tonnes of open in-shell pistachio to 47 countries during the period, the country's ISNA News Agency reported on July 21.

The figure indicates an increase by 91.2 percent compared to 10,500 tonnes of open in-shell pistachio exports during the 3-month period of preceding year (March 21- June 20, 2013).

The UAE was the main target of Iran's exported open in-shell pistachio in the first three months of the current Iranian fiscal year. Some $29.1 million worth of Iran's exported pistachio went to the UAE during the period.

Hong Kong with $23.56 million and Kazakhstan with $20.45 million worth of pistachio imports ranked second and third among 47 countries.

Turkey, India, Iraq and Germany were also among the importers of Iran's open in-shell pistachio during the period.

Pistachio rank 9th on Iran's exported non-oil goods list, according to the Iranian Custom Administration's latest monthly report. It shared 2.09 percent of Iran's non-oil exports' value during the period.

Pistachio also topped the list of country's food and agricultural exports.

The exported Open in-shell pistachio's average price stood at $8.4 per each kilogram in the mentioned period.
