BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 30. The advent of new forms of threats to aviation security in the world, such as cyber-attacks and the use of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), needs the development of international or regional uniform standards of response and a specialized program. TRACECA on civil aviation security urges the intensification of work to achieve generic standards of action in case of developing hazards., an expert on aviation security issues of the organization European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), Aleksandar Yankov told Trend.
ECAC was one of the organizers of the Baku seminar, together with the Permanent Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Commission TRACECA.
“There are decades-old ways and directions for dealing with conventional hazards. The International Civil Aviation Convention has article number 17, which deals with implementing safety precautions in the event of force majeure in airplanes and ground infrastructure. But now in the world, due to the growth of technology, there are new threats that could not be imagined in the past, and therefore it is necessary to rapidly find a solution, especially procedurally, within the framework of the creation of new norms of reaction,” Yankov noted.
According to him, the seminar held in Baku within the framework of the TRACECA profile program on aviation security allowed to promptly discuss these topical issues.
“There will be more similar events. Indeed, we need to react proactively and promptly to prevent risks. The key to this is good coordination between organizations and studying the signs of possible risks,” the ECAC expert stressed.
