Turkey’s Nisantasi University and Japan’s Nagasaki University have signed an agreement on the joint development and production of a flying car, the Nisantasi University said in a message.

The agreement was signed within the framework of the Super Object for Road and Air Movement (SORA) Project.

Single and double-seat models of the flying cars will be produced.

“It is expected that the first flying cars will be commissioned in Turkey by 2020,” the message said.

Meanwhile, Turkey also plans to start domestic car production.

On Nov. 2, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the names of companies that will take part in manufacturing of domestic cars. He noted that those companies are Anadolu Grubu, BMC, Kiraca Holding, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding.

Erdogan said that starting from 2021, Turkey will start exporting domestic cars to the neighboring countries.

The Turkish president added that it is also planned to create a special commission, which will supervise the production of domestic cars.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in car production. Models of Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are currently assembled in Turkey.

Moreover, Turkey manufactures local brands of buses, such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
