At a plenary meeting on May 3, the Senate of Uzbekistan approved the Law on Public-Private Partnership (PPP), which gives investors the right to enter into agreements on the PPP terms for up to 49 years, Trend reports with reference to the Senate's information service.

The document establishes the legal basis for Public-Private Partnership including rules and procedures and the institutional structure of this form of project implementation.

The law is sent for the signature to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyayev.

According to the law, the term of a PPP agreement may be up to 49 years. Selection of the private partner will be held on the basis of tender or direct negotiations.

In late April this year, the President of Uzbekistan issued a resolution approving a list of 15 projects worth $1.66 billion offered to foreign investors under the PPP terms.

The proposed list of projects includes, among others, the construction of solar and thermal power plants; attracting investors to the management of gas supply, heat supply and distribution networks throughout the country; construction of toll roads; and modernization of airports in Tashkent and regions of the country.
