Georgia ready to expand co-op with General Fisheries Commission for Mediterranean

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Yuri Nozadze underlined the importance of the activities implemented by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) and expressed readiness for further expansion of cooperation, Trend reports via the site of Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

The Deputy Minister made the statement at a meeting with the representative of General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean Roberto Emma.

In accordance with Georgia’s commitments under the EU-Georgia Association Agreement, the country cooperates with GFCM since 2014. General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean provides a support to Georgia in the development of fisheries joint management system for existing fish stocks across the Black Sea region. The system should be in line with the European standards.

The officials of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and representatives of the GFCM also attended the meeting.

The General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean is a regional fisheries management organization established under the provisions of Article XIV of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's Constitution.
