By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

It is planned to procure about 48,000 tons of potatoes as part of the state-run program for import substitution in Turkmenistan’s Dashoguz Region this year, Trend reports referring to Neytralni Turkmenistan newspaper.

About 12,000 tons of potatoes have been harvested so far, which is almost a quarter of the annual task, according to the information.

Gurbansoltan Eje District of Dashoguz Region holds the leading position, where it is planned to harvest 12,600 tons from 900 hectares and exceed last year's figure by 3,000 tons. Local tenants have already procured about 5,000 tons of tubers, the information said.

Dashoguz Region is the largest supplier of various types of fruits and vegetables and garden melons to Turkmenistan’s trade network. Local tenants believe that the soil and climatic conditions of the region are optimal for growing these cultures; they successfully grow tubers of various varieties, including the disease-resistant and high-yielding Dutch “Sante”, in the region.
