Sowing of elite seeds expands in Kazakhstan's Akmola region

Elite seeds sowing area was increased by 23.3 percent in Kazakhstan’s Akmola region and will amount to 365,000 ha this year, Trend reports with reference to the Internal Policy Department of the regional akimat.

The report said that the sowing work has been launched in the region already. The work on sowing of cereals, legumes and oilseeds is underway in the region. This year 31,600 agricultural vehicles will take part in the sowing work.

The main sowing crop will be spring wheat. Some 530,000 tons of seeds were sown already.

Farmers are receiving state support in the form of a cheaper loan at 5 percent per annum under the Ken Dala program. Farmers can count on receiving 24 billion tenge ($56.4 million) allocated for farmers' support.

This year’s sowing work in the Akmola region is to oversee sowing of 4.9 million ha. Legumes will account for 4.4 million ha, oilseeds for 254,000 ha, forage crops will account for 181,000 ha, potatoes will account for 16,100 ha and vegetables will account for over 3,000.

As reported earlier this month, sowing area of highly profitable crops such as oilseeds, vegetables and fodder crops has been increased by 238,000 ha this year in Kazakhstan.

The overall sowing area of agriculture crops was increased to be 22.5 million ha in Kazakhstan in 2020.

The regional budgets allocated 11.3 billion tenge (425.9 million) to subsidize seed production development this year, whereas 2.5 billion tenge ($5.7 million) were allocated from the republican budget to purchase nearly 29,400 tons of seeds and 838,700 elite seedlings.
