Kazakhstan eyes attracting latest US technologies in soybeans processing

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 2

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Head of Kazakhstan’s Almaty region Amandyk Batalov held talks with the Head of the Tuscarora International project Allison Ann Brown on the topic of attracting the latestUS technology in processing of soybeans, Trend reports citing the regional akimat (administrative office).

During the meeting, Batalov said that for the most part Almaty region is an agrarian region, however due to the industrial development it is also becoming more and more agro-industrial one. Among the priority crops grown in the region are sugar beets, corn, barley. At the same time, the region grows 95 percent of the soybeans produced in the country, which is why the issue of processing is a relevant one.

"Soybeans are mainly exported as raw materials. But there are also ventures that process it. If there are good proposals for introduction of new deep processing technologies, then we are ready to cooperate in this area," he said.

In turn, Brown said that the goal of the project which she is the head of is to study modern technologies for soybeans processing, including what are the relations between science and the business in this sphere, if there is a demand for soybeans and how to meet it.

"Within the framework of this project, we would like to create and develop business ties in the region. Since soybeans in general are used both as additives in food products and to manufacture animal feed, we would like to know if there is a need for new technologies for soybean processing in the region," she said.

Nearing the end of the meeting the parties agreed to hold further business meetings on the topic and to also possibly conclude memorandum to establish cooperation ties.
