Estonia eyes increasing butter export to Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 22

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

The Estonian company Tere AS shipped the first 100,000 packs of butter to the Uzbek market at the beginning of December, Trend reports with reference to ERR.ee.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Tere AS Ülo Kivine Estonian goods are highly valued in Central Asia, because they represent Western brands.

“We have to export products where we can, not where others think we should - this is often difficult to implement. As a rule, dairy products are perishable and are designed for regional sales, but with a certain assortment, our export potential is very great,” Kivine stressed.

Tere AS and Farmi Piimatööstus AS are part of an Estonian dairy company with a consolidated market share of 40 percent in the fresh dairy sector and a range of about 400 different dairy products.

The production facilities in Jõhvi, Põlva, and Viljandi town of Estonia produce 500 tons of milk every day. In addition to the local market, enterprises export to 25 different countries. A total of 570 people work in the four Tere and Farmi production sites and in the office.

According to the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade, Uzbekistan exports to Estonia during 2019 amounted to $3.66 million. The largest share of export during 2019 fell on mineral fuels, oils, distillation products, amounting to $2.62 million, while the least exported goods from Uzbekistan to Estonia were electrical, electronic equipment worth $7,050.
