Georgia reveals volume of exported alcoholic beverages

Some 36.4 million bottles (0.75 l) of wine were exported from Georgia to 55 countries around the world from January through May 2021, Trend reports via the National Wine Agency.

As reported, this is 15 percent more than in the same period of 2020.

Georgia received $82.4 million in revenue that is 8 percent more than in the same period of last year.

The top five exporting countries are Russia - 22.42 million bottles (17 percent growth), Ukraine – 4.16 million bottles (a 6 percent growth), Poland - 2.25 million bottles (11 percent growth), China - 1.86 million bottles (3 percent decline) and Kazakhstan - 1.36 million bottles (80 percent growth).

Exports increased to Georgian wine strategic markets: Poland – by 11 percent (2.25 million bottles), Lithuania - 63 percent (439,494 bottles), US - 26 percent (402,942 bottles), Estonia - 3 percent (258,640 bottles) and Germany – by 23 percent (314,703 bottles).

Exports also grew to Ukraine – by 6 percent (4.16 million bottles), Canada - 54 percent (118,006 bottles), Kazakhstan - 80 percent (1.36 million bottles), Russia - 17 percent (22.42 million bottles), Israel - 95 percent (236,996 bottles), Azerbaijan - 41 percent (115,247 bottles), Mongolia - 600 percent (232,920 bottles), Czech Republic - 900 percent (52,956 bottles), Turkey - 324 percent (61,110 bottles), Sweden – by 20 percent (48,836 bottles), etc.

Apart from Georgian wine, in the first five months of 2021, the country exported 13.5 million bottles (0.5 l) of brandy and 209 thousand bottles (0.5 l) of chacha. Revenues from the brandy's exports increased by 3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, and totaled $23 million, while revenues from chacha exports went up by 30 percent to $567,000.

In the reporting period, 270 local companies exported different volumes of Georgian wine and alcoholic beverages.

In total, from January through May Georgia carried out exports of wine, brandy, chacha, brandy alcohol, and bottled brandy worth $130 million that is 8 percent more than in the same period of last year.
