Volume of processed grapes grows significantly in Georgia

In Georgian Kakheti, up to 53,000 tons of grapes have been processed from August 27 through September 7, Trend reports with reference to the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Compared to the same period last year, the amount of grapes processed by this time is five times higher.

The harvest season and its delivery to the factories traditionally began in the municipalities of Dedoplistskaro and Sighnaghi, and from this week it will actively continue in other municipalities of the region.

By this time, up to 30,000 tons of Rkatsiteli, 17,000 tons of Saperavi grapes, 2,000 tons of Kakhuri Mtsvane were processed, up to 4,000 tons of grapes of other varieties were processed.

To support wine farmers, the Georgian government has decided to provide 100 million lari ($32.2 million) in subsidies for two grape varieties - Rkatsiteli and Kakhuri Mtsvane, which are mainly grown in Kakheti.

In 2020, up to 280,000 tons of grapes were harvested and processed in Georgia, which is an absolute record in the history of Georgia. More than 25,000 farmers donated grapes, their income amounted to 310 million lari ($99.9 million).
