New oil reserves have been discovered during drilling work for hydrocarbons conducted in Turkey in 2013 in the Batman province in the south-east of the country, the official website of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) reports.

The report of the TPAO also says that work on oil exploration began in Batman province three months ago. Volume of the discovered oil reserves has not been reported.

Turkey is actively searching for oil fields in order to reduce dependence on oil supplies from abroad. Exploration work in Sinop conducted in 2012 yielded no result.
