Saudi Arabia lends support to Turkmenistan on construction of TAPI gas pipeline

Saudi Arabia supports the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Ashgabat Said Osman Ahmed Suweid said, Trend reports referring to Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

According to the ambassador, Saudi Arabia shares with Turkmenistan the vision of the importance of global energy stability and diversification of energy supplies to world markets through large-scale projects such as the TAPI gas pipeline.

"Saudi Arabia cooperates in this direction and supports this ambitious project, as it will have a significant positive impact on economic and social development," the Saudi ambassador said.

The construction of the TAPI gas pipeline with a total length of 1,814 kilometers and a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, started in December 2015 on the territory of Turkmenistan.

The project was approved by Russia, the USA, a number of other countries of the world, as well as international financial institutions, in particular, the Asian Development Bank.
