Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend P.Kessamanski / The summit of the head of states of the Caspian littoral countries will be held in Tehran on 16 October, the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejat stated in a news conference in Baku on 22 August for Azerbaijani and Iranian journalists.
"At present, the potential of the Caspian is used unfairly. All heads of the Caspian countries voiced their agreement upon participating in this top meeting. We hope to witness far-sighted steps and consolidation of relations," the Iranian President said.
The Caspian should become a sea of peace, fraternity and cooperation, he said.
All Caspian littoral countries should find an opportunity to use exiting potential.
The Caspian is a good opportunity to establish friendly and good neighboring relations, according to Ahmedinejat
During the summit there are plans to sign a joint declaration on the legal status of the Caspian. The declaration has been developed by the Foreign Ministers of the Caspian littoral countries and submitted to the President. After the collapse of the USSR Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russian agreed upon the Caspian status. The issue remains unsolved between Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkmenistan.
