Excise tax revenues drop in Georgia

The income of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia from excise taxes amounted to 328.05 million lari ($110.3 million) from January through April 2020, which is 11.59 percent less than in the same period in 2019, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

The decrease was recorded both in revenue from excise tax on tobacco products and from excise tax on petroleum products.

In January-April 2020, 62.89 million excise stamps were sold, and the income received amounted to 114.34 million lari ($38.4 million), which is 12.13 percent or 15.75 million lari ($5.2 million) less than in the same period in 2019.

During the reporting period, budget revenue from excise tax on fuel amounted to 126.95 million lari ($42.6 million), which is 20.36 percent or 32.46 million lari ($10.9 million) less than in 2019, said the ministry.

From January through April 2020, the budget revenue of Georgia from the excise tax on gasoline fell by 20 percent to 72.4 million lari ($24.3 million), while the income from the excise tax on diesel decreased by 21 percent and amounted to 54.6 million lari ($18.3 million).

The total budget revenue from excise taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel amounted to 127 million lari ($42.7 million), which is 20.4 percent less than in the same period in 2019.

In the first four months of 2020, the total volume of imports of petroleum products to Georgia in monetary terms decreased by 19 percent and amounted to $171.2 million.
