A positive trend was observed in development of payment card infrastructure in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2021, Trend reports on Aug. 4 with reference to the "Payment System Review" of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
According to the CBA, there were 2,867 ATMs and more than 60,000 POS terminals in Azerbaijan as of July 1, which exceeds the indicators of the same period of last year by 8.9 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively.
The number of POS terminals accepting contactless payments made up 64.9 percent of their total number (52.9 percent - in the same period of last year).
According to the CBA, the number of payment terminals, including ATMs, has also increased.
Thus, the number of ATMs installed by banks increased by eight percent by the end of the first half of the year compared to the same period of last year while the number of payment terminals increased by 17 percent up to 1,978.
