Azerbaijan’s mobile operator Bakcell will invest in the network’s development about 80 million manats in 2018, Nikolai Beckers, head of the company, told reporters in Baku.
He said that this volume is almost the same compared to the value of investments last year, Trend reported.
“According to our plans, by the end of 2019, Bakcell’s 4G network will cover 95 percent of Azerbaijan’s population,” he noted. “Special emphasis will be placed on expanding network coverage in the districts.”
Beckers also spoke about the company’s plans to deploy a 5G network.
“Technically, we are ready, but to deploy the 5G network, frequencies and an appropriate license are required,” he said. “Of course, this will take time, and I think that for a number of reasons, 5G solutions are unlikely to appear in the world before 2020. For this, there must be sufficient number of consumer devices that support this communication standard. That is, the market itself must be ready for the application of the 5G network.”
