Azerbaijan notes annual increase in cargo traffic by rail

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17

The volume of cargo transportation by railway in Azerbaijan amounted to 6.1 million tons from January through May 2021, which is 1.7 percent more compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing the report of the State Statistical Committee.

At the same time, 876,800 passengers were transported by rail, which is a decrease of 27 percent on annual basis, the committee said.

The state committee noted that railway transport in the reporting period accounted for 7.9 percent of all cargo transportation.

On average, the number of loaded railway wagons per day was 384, unloaded - 327. The average daily load of cars in the northern railway direction was 18,600 tons, in the western direction – 3,400 tons, in the southern direction - 900 tons.

In the first 5 months of 2021, the volume of cargo transportation by all types of transport amounted to 77.2 million tons, of which 0.2 percent fell on the share of air transport. Also, 447 million passengers were transported by all types of transport.
