Cargo transportation volumes remain flat in Kazakhstan

A total of 355.2 million tons of cargo was transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in August 2021, which corresponds to the volume of August 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

In turn, the volume of cargo transported over the first eight months of 2021 amounted to 2.41 billion tons, which is 2.7 percent less year-on-year compared to 2.47 billion tons over the same period of last year.

Thus, the majority of the cargo was transported in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region. The volume of cargo transported in the region amounted to 70.2 million tons in August and 446.5 million tons over the reporting period of 2021, which is 9.3 percent more and 4 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.

Karaganda region is followed by the East Kazakhstan region with 54.3 million tons transported in August 2021 (down by 11.3 percent compared to August 2020). The volume of cargo transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 380.03 million tons, which compared to 403.4 million during the same period last year, indicates a 5.8-percent decrease.

Kostanay region takes third place country-wide by the cargo transported in August 2021 (29.1 million tons, down by 5 percent). The volume of cargo transported in the city over eight months of 2021 amounted to 182.2 million tons, which is 4.7 percent less than during the same period last year (191.1 million tons).

The least cargo volume was transported in the West Kazakhstan region. The transported cargo volume stood at 5.1 million tons of cargo in August 2021, which is 4.3 percent less than in August 2020. The volume of cargo transported from January through August 2021 was 34.1 million tons, which is 16.3 percent less year on year.
