Kazakhstan began building a transport and logistics center system on its border, Minister of Finance Bolat Jamishev said during a government meeting in the Majilis (the lower house of parliament) today.

"Proceeding from the cargo volume, imported in the territory of the Customs Union, in the Kazakh section of the external border, the construction of transport and logistics centers is planned to be launched on the road crossing points located on the Kazakh- Chinese border and at checkpoints located in the Mangistau region," he said.

According to him, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Finance are engaged in the creation of the transport and logistics centers in Kazakhstan and on the border.

Jamishev recalled that 'Almali customs clearance center' customs post was opened in the territory of the Global Ecological Group Almaty food-logistics center in Almaty in late June 2013. This center is one of the examples of the transport and logistics center in the country.

"The construction of the transport and logistics center will begin in the near future on the basis of an existing warehouse near the Kalzhat checkpoint," minister said. "The construction of the transport and logistics center on the Kazakh-Uzbek border is being considered."

The practice of creating the transport and logistics center is widely used around the world. Russia also planned to create the logistics centers on the border. It began setting them up in 2005.

Such transactions as the formation of consignments, sorting and other terminal cargo handling will be conducted in the transport and logistics center.
