Kazakhstan talks ongoing measures to develop ecotourism

The Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan is undertaking measures to develop ecological tourism, the ministry’s head Magzum Mirzagaliyev said, Trend reports referring to Kazinform.

According to Mirzagaliyev, currently master plans taking into account the opinions of specialists and the public are being developed. Public councils have been created at national parks, and investors identified for the four large national parks of the Almaty region.

"It was proposed to build 11 modern visitor centers, 5 eco-hotels, 28 glamping sites [the sites describe a style of camping with amenities, and in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with traditional camping], 8 camping areas, and 4 ethnic villages at the national parks of the Almaty region,” the minister noted during a meeting with the citizens. “In the next few years, more than 31.5 billion tenge ($73 million) of private investments will be attracted. The expected flow of tourists will create job opportunities.”

He further said that the construction of the necessary infrastructure has begun on the ground.

"The Ayusai Visitor Center has been opened in the territory of Ile-Alatau National Park [located in Almaty region], around which paths are being arranged, a bridge has been built across the river for the convenience of tourists, and volunteers pass training in eco-culture," the ministry’s head added.
