The speaker of the Senate (upper house) of the Kazakh Parliament Kairat Mami will pay an official visit to Turkmenistan on September 5-6 at the invitation of Chairman of the Majlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan Akja Nurberdieva, according to a message from Kazakhstan's parliament.
According to the message, meetings between the Chairman of the Kazakh Senate with Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and with the chairman of the country's Majlis are expected to be held in Ashgabat. it is also expected that the speaker of Kazakh Parliament will make a speech in the Institute of International Relations of Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry.
Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan cooperate on putting energy resources up on foreign markets, namely Kazakh oil in the South - to Persian Gulf, and Turkmen gas to the North - to the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Europe, as well as China.
With the commissioning of the Turkmen-Kazakh section of the international "North-South" railway in mid-May, 2013, the total volume of transit operations increased by 8 times. This project has been being implemented since 2007 after signing the high-level agreements between Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran.
Recently an agreement was reached on expanding consular relations between the countries: the opening of a Turkmen consulate in Aktau and a Kazakh consulate in Turkmenbashi are underway.
