India wants to re-negotiate bilateral investment treaties with Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and a number of other countries, Indian Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman said, Indian media outlets reported.

The minister said that while approving the new Model Bilateral Investment Treaty text in 2015, the Indian government had also approved the proposal to terminate those out of total 83 existing bilateral investment treaties that the country had signed with other countries, whose initial validity period had expired.

Sitharaman noted that India has already received response from number of these countries including Turkmenistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and others, who have come forward to renegotiate a new bilateral investment treaties.
