The Iranian administration has decided to establish the Ministry of Infrastructure Affairs through merging the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, and one more ministry, which has not yet been decided, the Mehr News Agency quoted Roads and Urban Development Minister Ali Nikzad as saying.

"In many countries, communication and transportation are handled by a single ministry," he added.
The issue of merging the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has been proposed by the government during the past two years, but the parliament was against the suggestion.

Earlier, the Iranian government decided to merge the Oil Ministry with the Energy Ministry, while Labor Ministry is combined with the Welfare and Social Security Ministry.

According to the Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015), the Iranian government is obliged to reduce its ministries form 21 to 17 to improve the efficiency of state administration.
